Anniversary at sea — how to plan it properly

Anniversaries reward restraint. Two people, occasionally a small group, and a programme with one memorable centrepiece rather than five competing ones. The most common mistake is booking a full day when a well-timed four hours would have been better.
Dining decides the evening
Either a chef on board or a reserved table ashore — not both. If you dine ashore, book the berth or mooring at the same time; in high season the table is easier to get than the place to tie up.
Multi-day only if you move
A multi-day booking is worth it when the itinerary changes anchorage each day. Staying in one bay for three nights is almost always better done from a villa.
Ask these before you pay a deposit
- Does the price include a chef, or only the galley and crew?
- Is the mooring or berth at the dinner location reserved and paid?
- What is the cancellation window and the refund percentage at each stage?
